Description

The London Bus Museum is situated within the famous Brooklands Museum at Weybridge, Surrey that is home to motor-racing, classic cars, aircraft and more. The Bus Museum moved from its original home in Cobham, Surrey in 2011 to the new purpose built premises at Brooklands. The independent transport videos cameras are no strangers to the Museum having filmed the buses and coaches there over the years. The London Bus Museum put on a number of special events during the year, each with a different theme and feature the vehicles corresponding to it, including the ‘Spring Gathering’, ‘Summer Festival’ and ‘Transportfest’ to name but three. This DVD programme features five visits that our cameras made to film the buses and coaches at the Brooklands site during 2022, 2023 and 2024. You might be thinking that all the buses seen on the programme will all be London buses, but you would be wrong! There are many visiting buses, some privately preserved or owned by a group, as well as contemporary buses that bus operators send along to display special liveries or their latest additions to their fleet for all to see. These operators include Brighton & Hove, Reading Transport, Stagecoach as well as a number of London bus companies including Metroline, Go Ahead London, RATP Dev and Abellio to name but a few.

Our filming takes place around the extensive grounds of the Museum with some views taken inside the Museum building itself. During these special events a number of ‘tours’ are operated often using former London Transport buses and coaches as well as the 462 circular service that runs from the Museum to Weybridge and Weybridge Station. A good variety of buses operate this service as can be seen on this programme. Our camera takes five rides on the 462 service between 2022 and 2024 on an interesting selection of vehicles, as you will see. These include a ride on BCE47153 (LG71 DXM), a BYD/ Enviro400EV City double-decker, a battery-electric bus from the London RATP Dev Fleet, RML903 (WLT 903) a 1963 AEC Routemaster that is owned and operated by Metroline London as a Special Events vehicle and WVL1 (LG02 KPG), a Volvo B7TL with a Wright Eclipse Gemini body formally owned by Go Ahead London General and now part of the Museum’s collection. Another battery-electric bus ride is on board 82006 (LV73 FEH), a Wright StreetDeck Electroliner belonging to Stagecoach London and a ride on BCE47077 (LG71 DYX), another RATP Dev London battery-electric double-decker similar to BCE47153 that we travelled on earlier. Our 2024 visit in June celebrated the ‘Windrush Generation’ where along with the buses the visitors were serenaded with a ‘Steel Band’ adding interest to a very warm summer day. By contrast the weather for our October visit in 2024 was very wet, but here we witness the launch of T448 (CXX 171), the 1936 AEC Regal I with a Weymann C30F coach body resplendent in the Green Line coach livery. We hope you enjoy these five visits to the excellent London Bus Museum at the Brooklands Museum.
