In the mid 1980s, when it was possible to buy a video recorder for the first time, a new family-run company was formed by the name of Videoscene. Based in Bradford, the idea was to offer railway enthusiasts the chance to purchase the small number of VHS tapes available at that time and working from a portable trade stall, Videoscene could be found at the various model railway exhibitions up and down the country.
As the number of titles increased and many new companies were born, by the mid-1990s, a mail order service was introduced. By the early 2000s, with the advent of DVD, much improved picture quality and the new home entertainment systems, watching an A4, Black 5 or Deltic on full power was a whole new experience!
In 2006, the owners retired and Videoscene was purchased by the Blackpool-based team who produce the Train Crazy and Blackpool tram DVDs. Keeping up the family-run tradition, with the dawn of widescreen TVs and high definition, Videoscene once again moved with the times and today we are one of the leading producers and retailers of railway and transport DVDs.
Still to be found at many model railway shows and depot open days, this is now matched with a full colour catalogue, a quality and easy-to-use website and a friendly and speedy mail order service.
In 2009 we opened the Blackpool Tram Shop at North Pier and as well as stocking our tram products, this was an opportunity to offer the Videoscene range of DVDs to the public for the first time on a permanent basis.
Today, with the huge plasma TVs and home entertainment systems reaching new levels plus a truly endless list of top quality DVDs and Blu-rays available, railway and transport enthusiasts have never had it so good!
Unlike many of the bland faceless DVD retail companies out there today with their directors and shareholders, we are loyal to our customers, still operating as a traditional family-run company, offering a friendly personal service, competitive prices and stocking the latest and best titles from the world of transport DVDs.
