This DVD features various bus events and running days that took place in late 2022 and early 2023. Four of these events had a distinct London flavour, the others taking place in Winchester and Southampton. These events are very important, providing opportunities for enthusiasts and the general public to see and ride on some of the many preserved buses in the UK. Many different buses, both old and new can be seen at these events.
London Bus Museum Transportfest - 23rd October 2022
The event at the museum site in Brooklands, Weybridge, Surrey featured the launch of Dennis D142 after a new restoration. This bus now carries the livery of the London Public Omnibus Co. which it carried when new in 1928. Other heritage buses and some modern buses were running on the 462 route to Weybridge and on bus tours from the museum around the local area.
Hendon Vintage Bus Running Day: 20th November 2022
This event commemorated the 35th anniversary of the closure by London Transport of Hendon (AE) bus garage in North West London. Many former London Transport buses took part and operated on routes 13, 32, 140, 183, N59 and 240A.
Friends of King Alfred Buses (FoKAB) Mini Running Day - 1st January 2023
FoKAB main running day is now in May, but the traditional New Years Day event continues. This year several routes in and around Winchester were operated by buses from the FoKAB fleet plus a couple of guest buses including a 1942 all Leyland TD5 formerly operated by Scottish Omnibuses.
The Epping Ongar Railway LT to LRT Bus Running Day - 18th February 2023
The EOR ran several bus routes based on their HQ at North Weald station in Essex. Former London buses ran on the 20B, 175A, 250, 339 and 581A to destinations such as Loughton, Ongar, Epping and Passingford Bridge.
Farewell to Southampton Red Buses: 19th February 2023
First Hampshire and Dorset closed their Southampton operation on 18th February 2023 with Bluestar, part of Go-Ahead South Coast taking over the following day. The Southampton & District Transport Trust organised a running day on the 19th February 2023 using mostly former Southampton Corporation buses on routes from the city centre to Portswood, Shirley and Woolston.
London Bus Routes 174 & 175 Running Day: 25th March 2023
Route 174, Dagenham - Harold Hill and 175, Dagenham - North Romford, Chase Cross, were operated by a variety of heritage buses including Routemasters and RT's, also of note were pre-war STL2377 and 1945 utility Guy Arab G351. Included in the roster of Routemasters were three of the RMA class, former BEA front entrance buses that operated on the 175 for a short time in 1975/6. The event was organised by the London Bus Museum, Brooklands, Weybridge, Surrey.
