Description

Charting the history of slate production at two centres, Dinorwic Quarry in Llanberis, with today's Llanberis Lake Railway and the National Slate Museum.

We then move down to the Dulas Valley in mid-Wales for the Corrie Railway and the continuation of slate production there by the Wincilate Company.

The National Slate Museum at Llanberis is formed by the buildings of the Dinorwic Quarry which dominated the area. Skills of forging and slate splitting are still demonstrated here.

The Llanberis Lake Railway runs the length of Lake Padarn using 2' gauge equipment rescued from Dinorwic Quarry.

In mid-Wales the Corris Railway is being lovingly recreated in the Dulas Valley. See a gravity slate train in action and 2005-built No. 7, one of the newest steam locomotives in Britain.

Finally the modern day slate products made by the Wincilate Company.
