Description

The revival in diesel-hauled passenger trains continued throughout 2018 and this title provides a review of what happened during the year.Starting in Cumbria and with two Class 37 diagrams at the start of the year, top and tail Class 68s were drafted in on one diagram but by September it was back to two 37s. 37401, 37402, 68003, 68004, 68017 and 68029 are featured.

In Anglia the short-set continued between Norwich, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. A typical day is featured with the recently refurbished Large Logo 37409 and 37405 filmed at numerous locations.

In the dedicated XHCE and XHVE pools, Class 68s continued to work Chiltern Mainline services out of Marylebone. A typical evening peak is featured, with five departures from London in just over two hours with 68009, 68010, 68013, 68014 and 68015.

In Scotland, the weekday peak Fife Circle commuter trains remained Class 68 hauled. As well as the dedicated duo of 68006 and 68007, locos 68016 and 68033 are also seen. In what will be the last full year of the Mk3 sleeper coaches, Class 67s continued on the Inverness portion with 73s to Aberdeen and Fort William. 67005, 016 and 018 are shown plus 73s 966 and 967. Freshly painted in Caledonian blue, 47727 passes over the Tay Bridge with the Aberdeen portion.

In Wales, two Class 67 diagrams operated, one out and back from Holyhead to Cardiff, the second, an all-day diagram taking in Crewe, Manchester Piccadilly, Holyhead and Llandudno. 67010, 67022 and 67029 are featured. With the coaches used on the Great Western sleeper now serviced at Reading, the empty stock move to/from Paddington and the actual train to/from Penzance (four trains) are all now top-and-tailed from Reading to Paddington and back! 57602, 57603 and 57604 are featured here with footage of the back loco being detached at Reading and the light engine move plus the empty stock in daylight!

BONUS FOOTAGE: The remarkable loco-hauled service on the Oxenholme - Windermere branch with 33029 and 57316.

Each section is introduced with maps and diagrams plus loco and stock trivia.
