2025 was a good year for tramway anniversaries with events taking place in Prague/Praha in the Czech Republic, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Turin/Torino in Italy. These three cities have large collections of heritage trams that can operate on their extensive tramway systems, making it possible to run the historic trams on special occasion.
Prague/Praha, Czech Republic.
2025 was the 150th anniversary of the first horse tramway service in the city, the DPP, the Prague transport authority organised a tram parade on 21st September 2025 which started at Křižíkova. Forty-two trams and tram sets set off on a 12 km route around the city, finishing at Spejchar, a stop that is near the tramway museum. The citizens of Prague are very proud of their tramway system and thousands of people lined the route of the parade. Filmed at the start of the parade at Křižíkova, also at Malostranská and Sparta. The DPP included modern trams from their current fleet, and works cars alongside the historic trams.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
2025 was the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Electrische Museumtramlijn Amsterdam, the EMA. It was also the 125th anniversary of the first electric tram in Amsterdam. The EMA have a 7 km line which runs on a former railway line from Haarlemmermeerstation. On the 27th September trams from the EMA collection were running on former route 16 from Olympiaweg to Centraal Station. On the 28th September historic trams were running on a couple of circular routes from Haarlemermeerstation, several preserved buses were also in action. The day ended with a parade of the historic trams to Lekstraat depot where they were being stored.
Turin/Torino, Italy.
The Turin historical tram association, Associazione Torinese Tram Storici, the ATTS, celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2025 with a parade of historic trams, mostly from Turin, as part of their annual trolley festival on 7th December 2025. The parade started at Piazza Statuto continuing through Via Cernaia to Piazza Castello terminating at Piazza Vittorio Venuto. After the parade the trams operated on two circular routes around the city centre, starting and terminating at Piazza Castello. Apart from Turin, trams from Bologna, Rome and Trieste, together with on of the new 8000 series of Hitachi trams took part in the parade. Several preserved buses were also in action during the day.
