Description

We welcome you to this independent transport videos programme, which features our 2023 visit to the superb Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond in Fife. The great thing about our DVD programmes from this superb bus museum is that each time there is always some new buses and coaches to film, inspect and ride upon. We begin our visit to Lathalmond with a look at the mostly preserved buses lined up along the roads of the Museum awaiting to be inspected by the public and to have their photos taken! Modern contemporary buses also appear including the Autonomous Enviro200MMC bus operated by Stagecoach over the Forth Road Bridge. We film plenty of action shots of buses and coaches running on the Internal Service at various locations on this impressive Museum site. Of course the majority of buses running are preserved and feature many types from a bygone era with chassis manufactures including AEC, Albion, Bedford, Bristol, Daimler, Dennis, Leyland and Volvo. Bodywork manufacturers such as Alexander, ECW, Metro-Cammell, Park Royal and many others are also seen on our programme.

Bus companies from the past are also well represented including W Alexander (Midland), (Northern), (Fife) and Scottish Omnibuses, Eastern Scottish, Western SMT to name but a few Scottish examples. A former English bus company represented here is Northumbria. Formed after deregulation in 1986 this company operated the former United Automobile Company’s routes that ran north of the River Tyne. They operated a number of second-hand ECW coach-bodied Olympians sourced from London Country (Green Line), Eastern National and Maidstone & District. To represent one of these buses one has been painted in an alternative livery to represent the type operated by Northumbria as its 369 (B693 BPU), a Leyland Olympian with an ECW CH73F body that began life with Eastern National. We take a ride on it on the Lathalmond Internal Service. Probably the highlight of this DVD programme is a journey to Dunfermline on board former SMT AA620B (OWS 620), a 1957 Bristol Lodekka LD6G with ECW H60R bodywork. Superbly finished in its original SMT livery of light green and cream.

We would like to thank it’s owner Sholto Thomas for letting us put a camera in the cab for the ride to Dunfermline bus station and back to the Museum. We also film from the passenger’s perspective in both the lower and upper saloons for you to have the full experience of travelling on this lovely bus. On our return to the Museum we film some of the departures ending another excellent visit to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, Lathalmond.
