The year 2020 may be the 60th anniversary of the Class 37 but it is also the 20th anniversary since this class finished on passenger trains in North Wales.
The final train, in the snow, with 37429 ran on 30th December 2000 and 20-years later, this DVD relives that final year. Produced by the people who bring you the British Rail Motive Power series, all footage is previously unseen and it charts its way through the entire year with action from Holyhead and well-known Welsh locations, right through to the West Midlands and Birmingham New Street.
Presented in date order, ten different locos are featured, from old favourites like 37401 'Mary Queen of Scots' and 37408 'Loch Rannoch' to Reg Rail 37420 'The Scottish Hosteller' and Royal Scotsman liveried 37428.
Highlights include the bizarre late afternoon run-round move at Llandudno, the farewell Railtour from May with 37029, 37379, 37608 & 37612 to Blaenau Ffestiniog, superb roadside action filmed at speed along the A55 and the final train in December.
Filmed from the lineside, at stations, roadside and on board, the footage is presented in a simple, no-nonsense format, with on-screen dates and locations accompanied by a 12-page booklet of train and loco details. This DVD provides a nostalgic trip along the 'Coast' when Type 3s ruled the rails.
