The Norfolk Southern Steam Excursion Programme ran for 28 years until the end of 1994. In the later years trains were scheduled to run over the whole of the system in the eastern USA and used such famous locomotives as Norfolk Western's J Class 4-8-4 No. 611, A Class simple articulated 2-6-6-4 No. 1218 and Southern 2-8-2 No. 4501. Add to this former Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 No. 587 and we have a varied range of high quality mainline steam power.
