A programme using archive film to explore the development of electric power on the third rail electrified routes of the Southern.

In addition we look at the Mark One stock of the British Railways era, with the CIGs, VEPs, COPs, BIGs, and CEPs using archive film shot over a period of 40 years.
Finally the Class 71s and Class 73s are illustrated on a range of traffic.
Locations include Waterloo, Victoria, London Bridge, the Brighton main line, Clapham Junction, the main line to Southampton, Wandsworth Road, Worthing and Surbiton.
