Description

The independent transport videos cameras return to Yorkshire with a two-disc DVD set which concentrates on buses around West Yorkshire. The first disc features buses operating within Leeds city centre and includes buses operated by First Leeds, First Bradford and First Halifax. Other operators seen include Arriva Yorkshire, Stagecoach Yorkshire and Transdev subsidiaries including Coastliner and City Zap. Smaller operators also caught on camera include Connexions Buses (Harrogate Coach Travel) of Tockwith, CT Plus, Tetleys and Square Peg of Leeds. The vehicles operated by these companies include both single and double-decker buses built by Alexander Dennis, Optare and Wrights. First Leeds has also purchased nine Yutong E10 electric buses that are used on route 5 from Halton Moor to Albion Street via the Leeds General Infirmary. Branded buses are used on Park & Ride services that operate from sites at Elland Road, Temple Green and Stourton into the city centre. A normal bus route (with un-branded buses) serves the original Park & Ride site at Alwoodley.

Some of this film was taken in 2021 when much re-development in the city centre was occurring with the widening of pavements, the removal of traffic islands and the introduction of bus gates in an attempt to reduce Co2 levels. During this work tram track has been dug up which has been hidden since the last Leeds trams ran in November 1959.

The second DVD features buses operating in the tranquil areas of West Yorkshire. First Leeds operates routes X98 and X99 to Wetherby with the X99 passing through the village of East Keswick. Connexions Buses operates route 64 from Leeds to Aberford that passes the Charles Henry Roe public house in Crossgates as well as the former factory site, which has been re-developed with private housing. Barwick in Elmet is also served by this route and features in this DVD. The pub is owned by Wetherspoons and inside there are pictures provided by Malcolm King our filmmaker featuring buses built at the Roe factory including one of a Roe-bodied Daimler CVG6 passing the site where the pub is located.

As well as featuring the many varied liveries used by the local operators, some of the local historic buildings are also featured including in Leeds the Corn Exchange and the Town Hall to name but two. We hope you enjoy both DVDs in this special set.
