Independent transport videos welcome you to this, our 14th edition DVD programme featuring the Merseyside Transport Trust's (MTT) annual September Buses Running Day.  This time we return to the city of Liverpool after last year’s event being moved to Southport because of the redevelopment of the Pier Head area.  In view of that redevelopment no traffic is able to use the Pier Head/Man Island area so the city centre bus stops for the event were relocated to James Street adjacent to the Monument of Queen Victoria. The theme this year was the Liverpool Corporation era, using mostly buses that were operated by the Corporation before the takeover by the PTE.

As usual our cameras were on hand to record the day’s events for you to enjoy, this time including the contemporary buses of Stagecoach and Arriva to add further interest to compare and see how bus design has changed over the years.  Our cameras were in place early in the morning and by chance the first bus to be filmed was Stagecoach 15743 (KX61 DLF), a Scania/ADL400 in the green and cream corporate style livery celebrating 90 years of Crosville at Rock Ferry bus depot.  We see it leaving the stop in Lord Street in the city centre.  In James Street we capture the action of the modern buses and the preserved MTT vehicles as they take up their services before we take a ride on L227 (SKB 224), a former Liverpool Corporation Leyland Titan PD2/20 with Crossley/LCPT bodywork built in 1956 for the 20E service to Aigburth Vale, one of the interchange points of the day.  Here we film the buses passing through before a ride on the 68E service onboard former Liverpool Corporation, but in Merseyside PTE livery, 1054 (FKF 933G), a 1968 Leyland Panther with MCW B47D+24 bodywork for a spirited ride to the Penny Lane interchange on Smithdown Road.

From filming the action here we return to the city centre on board 1236 (BKC 236K), a 1972 Leyland Atlantean PDR1A/1 with Alexander bodywork.  This time we have put a camera in the cab for the driver’s eye view of the route, plus one in the lower saloon for the passenger's experience.  On arrival at James Street we again film the action and then board A267 (VKB 900), a 1957 AEC Regent V with MCW H62R bodywork for the 87 service to Aigburth Vale.  We stay with this bus when it leaves as the 68E to Penny Lane and from there a 71 returning to James Street in the city centre.  Our cameras travel in both the lower and upper saloons as well as with the driver in the cab!

This brings us to the end of a most enjoyable day as we see the final buses arriving and departing back to their respective homes from James Street. We would like to say a big thank you to the drivers, organisers and to all concerned for putting on this superb show for all to enjoy.  We conclude the programme with a ‘photo album’ of the preserved buses in action from the camera of Mark Youdan.  Enjoy!
