Description

Our Digitally Remastered Series are bigger, better and in stunning HD for the very first time! These are the original programmes which have been put through the upscale and remastering treatment with improvements to audio, colour balance, contrast and most of all - picture quality. Some of the trains featured here were never filmed in HD or in broadcast quality. Now, for the first time - you can enjoy just that!

Three very different railways across France, north, south & east. Starting with the Vivaris Railway on the River Rhone south of Lyon, this line runs 20 miles along the Doux Gorge. The Abreschviller Forestry Railway is a 4 mile remnant of a larger logging line in the Alsace region preserved for tourists. The Baie de Somme Railway is a seaside line with two branches on the northern coast of Picardie.

The Vivarais is a metre gauge line twisting and turning inland up the steep Doux river gorge. The line uses big 0-6-6-0 Mallets designed for use on the tight curves. See 414 from the footplate. At Abrescviller the 0-4-4-0 Heilbronn Mallet tackles the 1:15 gradient up to Grand Soldat. Also a wood train recreating the past. This is an unusual 70cm gauge line. The Baie de Somme Railway has a fleet of 2-6-0 tanks running two branches including double departures.
