Description

The Zillertelbahn (Austria) was visited in June 1986 and The Achenseebahn was visited in September 1999.

The Zillertelbahn route length is 31.7 km (19.8 miles) and gauge is 760 mm (2ft 6ins).First we see narrow gauge activities at Jenbach station. Then a ride is taken behind steam loco 0-6-2T No. 3 Tirol (built 1902) to Mayrhofen. The return journey to Jenbach is taken by DMU. Other stock is viewed on the journey.

The Achenseebahn route length is 6.8 km (4.2 miles) and gauge is 1000 mm (3ft 3ins).We take steam loco 0-4-0RT No. 3 Ackenkirch (built 1899) from Jenbach. At Achensee a lake steamer departs and the other two fleet locos arrive.
