Take your seat in the cab of a Transport for Wales Class 175 for a journey from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly. We'll be following the first route built between the two cities, travelling on tracks laid by the Birkenhead Junction Railway, the Warrington and Newton Railway, and the world's first inter-city railway, the Liverpool and Manchester. There's sparkling weather for the trip with blue skies all the way.
We begin by striking north-east for Helsby Junction, Frodsham and Runcorn, before joining the West Coast Main Line at Warrington. Continuing north, we'll leave today's WCML at Winwick Junction, following its original route to join the Liverpool & Manchester's line at Earlestown.
