This DVD features various transport events and bus running days that took place in the summer and autumn of 2023. These events are very important, providing opportunities for enthusiasts and the general public to see and ride on some of the many preserved buses in the UK. Many different buses, both old and new can be seen at these events.
Volks Electric Railway 140th Anniversary - 12th August 2023.
This event commemorated the opening in 1883 of what is now the oldest operating electric railway in the world. There were speeches and a parade of all the operational trains along the line, which runs on Brighton seafront from Aquarium to Black Rock. The line is operated by Brighton & Hove City Council in conjunction with the Volks Electric Railway Association.
Lodge's Coaches of High Easter, Essex, Bus Rally - 20th August 2023.
This event featured coaches from Lodge's heritage fleet plus visiting buses and coaches from other operators. Trips out to the Essex countryside were run from Lodge's modern garage and workshop.
Metrobus 40th Anniversary Celebrations - 23rd September 2023.
This event took place at the Go-Ahead Metrobus Orpington garage at Green Street Green and celebrated the founding of the Metrobus company in 1983. There was a display of buses, heritage and modern at the garage, and various bus routes were operated with preserved buses.
Chesham Classic Bus Running Day - 1st October 2023.
This event was organised by the Amersham & District Motorbus Society and featured mostly ex-London Transport and London Country buses running on routes from Chesham to various towns and villages in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
Isle of Wight Bus Museum 'Wightrider' Event - 15th October 2023.
The Isle of Wight Bus Museum in Ryde held running days on 14/15th October, this chapter was filmed on the 15th October. The museum ran eleven routes from Ryde to various parts of the island using Southern Vectis buses from their own collection, plus visiting buses that had come across from the mainland. A wide variety of buses and coaches were in operation to towns such as Newport, Cowes, Seaview, Shanklin and Bembridge. At the end of this chapter there are some views of the Island Line Railway that runs from Ryde Pier to Shanklin, new trains entered service towards the end of 2021, these are former London District line trains that have been totally refurbished by Vivarail.
