Description

This DVD programme traces the history of the preserved section of the GCR with pre-end of BR operation archive films by Richard Willis and Mike Clemens showing the story of the Great Central from London Marylebone all the way through to Nottingham Victoria.

Individual studies of each station at Loughborough, Quorn & Woodhouse, Rothley and the new station at Leicester North almost in the same location as the previous Belgrave & Birstall station.

We look at how the line from Loughborough Central to Leicester North was secured for preservation in the late 1960s and follow the heritage railway right up to 2023 with its operations to ‘Recreate the Experience’. A look at the northern extension to the outskirts of Nottingham at Ruddington with scenes of the new bridges spanning the A60 and Midland Main Line at Loughborough.

An in depth view of locomotive restoration in the works with all the local fleet covered including 63501, 70013, 45305, 48305, 30777 and many more.
