This four disc set features the following titles:
AV136 - The Cumbrian Coast Class 108 DMU
Filmed on location in Cumbria 1987/1989.
Section 1: Carlisle - Workington
After departing Carlisle we pass another 108 on the down. A coal train stands in Maryport Open Cast as we pass and then call at Flimby. At Workington we let the first unit continue after the driver has cleaned the windscreen.
Section 2: Workington - Whitehaven
Joining the next southbound service we see Class 20s on a weed killing train and a Class 155 unit in the yard. After calling at Harrington we travel over the single line on the sea wall to Parton. After a signal check we enter Whitehaven bay platform. We see our unit return on a Carlisle service and then the next down service arrives and departs.
Section 3: Whitehaven - Barrow-in-Furness
Joining the driver in the cab we enter Whitehaven tunnel and head towards the light of Corkickle and Braystones. After Sellafield we see the green 108 on a down service as well as 4472 Flying Scotsman in the yard. From Drigg to Bootle we travel over the down line due to relaying on the up. Back on the up line, and back in the cab, we stop at more stations before finally arriving at Barrow-in-Furness.
Section 4: Barrow-in-Furness - Carnforth
A number of unit movements take place in and out of Barrow sidings before we continue south, soon arriving at Arnside then Carnforth where we leave our 108 to head towards Preston.
Section 5: Oxenholme - Windermere
After having fitters’ attention we join our 108 to travel from Oxenholme. It's not very long before we arrive at Windermere and watch waiting passengers join.
AV137 - The Manchester South Class 101 DMU
Filmed on the North West from 1993 to 2003
Section 1: The Hope Valley
A unit stands at Sheffield. We join our service at Hathersage for a run through the Hope Valley. A west-bound service is viewed at Bamford, while at Edale a number of different liveries are seen. At New Mills another west-bound set arrives before we race through Strines.
Section 2: Marple - Manchester Piccadilly
A turn-back arrives at Marple which we join for our run all stops to Ashburys. Between Bredbury and Brinnington we travel through the Tilcon terminal fire. At Manchester Piccadilly we see various 101s arriving in many liveries!
Section 3: Manchester Piccadilly - Hyde North
After further arrivals and departures at Piccadilly we retrace our steps to Ashburys and then pass through Gorton. Stopping at Fairfield and Guide Bridge we arrive at Hyde North.
Section 4: Hyde North - Rose Hill
Joining the green set we then travel through Hyde Central and Woodley before rejoining the earlier route at Romiley. At Marple Wharf Junction we turn to climb the leaf covered track to eventually terminate at Rose Hill. After viewing various sets a Strathclyde livery departs.
Section 5: Chester - Manchester Piccadilly
Units are seen at Chester, Lostock Gralam, Mobberley, Stockport, Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme. We visit Manchester Piccadilly for the last time but now after dark.
AV138 - The North West Class 101 - 116 DMU
Filmed on the North West from 1987 to 1995.
Section 1: Copy Pit - Preston We join the “Roses Link” Bradford to Preston service at Hebden Bridge. At Hall Royd Junction the Copy Pit route is taken. Passing Burnley, Rose Grove, Accrington and Blackburn our 104 arrives at Preston. While at Preston a number of arrivals and departures are seen.
Section 2: The Heysham Branch At Lancaster we join a pair of 101s on the Heysham service. Passing through Bare Lane and Morecambe we terminate at the Harbour. After the “Strathclyde” 101s depart a pair of “Regional Railways” 101s arrive for our return.
Section 3: Victoria/Stalybridge/Southport First we see Manchester Victoria movements in the 1980s and then after the station rebuild. 101s at Stalybridge, Greenfield and Bolton are seen before moving to Southport to see various classes arriving and departing.
Section 4: Buxton/Piccadilly/Hooton At Buxton many 108s are stabled. Joining one of the 108s we journey to Piccadilly. Oxford Road and Altrincham we see other 108s. Moving to Hooton in Merseyside (now fully EMU) we see 101s on the Ellesmere Port and Helsby service.
Bonus Section: The RSA 1993 Tour: The Railway Study Association tour around Manchester on Sat 24th April 1993. We join 101676 at Victoria, travelling via Philips Park junctions to Ashburys and then reversing at Guide Bridge. From Manchester Piccadilly onto the newly completed Manchester Airport station.
AV139 - The North East Slam Door DMU
Filmed on the North East from 1986 to 2009.
Section 1: North East & York
First we see movements in Newcastle station. Then we visit Darlington, Eaglescliffe, Thornaby Station & Depot and Middlesbrough before finishing in York.
Section 2: West Yorkshire
Leeds is seen before visiting New Pudsey, Shipley, Guiseley, Wakefield Kirkgate and Huddersfield.
Section 3: South Yorkshire & Hull
First we visit Darton, Barnsley and Doncaster. Also units are seen in Doncaster Works. Then we witness the last booked service to use West Parade to Anlaby Road before Hull station itself.
Section 4: Lincolnshire
We travel from Kirton Lindsey to Retford Low Level. Next we see Gainsborough Lea Road, Lincoln Central, Sleaford, Boston and Grantham.
Section 5: Keighley & Worth Valley
First we travel from Keighley to Oakworth by railbus. For the return from Oxenhope we use the Class 108.
Section 6: Wensleydale Railway
We join the Class 110 set to travel from Leeming Bar to Redmire. The return journey to Leeming Bar is made using the Class 101 set.
