Mainline charters are featured from throughout the year, each travelling at speed at various locations around the UK. Charters include ‘The Jacobite’, ‘The Mayflower’, ‘The Royal Duchy’, ‘The Great Britain XVI’, ‘The English Riviera’, ‘The Dalesman’, ‘The Fellsman’, ‘The Lakelander’, ‘The White Rose’, ‘The Northern Belle’, ‘The Cumbrian Mountain Express’, The Scarborough Spa Express’, plus others too.
2024 Highlights:
• Mainline charters are featured from a variety of locations across the UK, including the Devon Banks, Shap, the Settle & Carlisle Railway, the 1 in 37 Lickey Incline, the West Highland Railway Extension, the Cumbrian Coast, and the East Coast Mainline, among others. Many locomotives are featured including: 60532 ‘Blue Peter’, 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’, 45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’, 35028 ‘ Clan Line’, 61306 ‘Mayflower’, 70000 ‘Britannia’, 34046 ‘Braunton’, 34067 ‘Tangmere’, 7029 ‘Clun Castle’, 5043 ‘Earl Of Mount Edgecumbe’, 44871, 45212 plus others too.
• 2024 saw the launch of several newly build steam locomotives. GWR No.6880 ‘Betton Grange’ is seen at the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway, LBSCR Marsh Atlantic No. 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ is seen at the Bluebell Railway and FR Double Fairlie No.8 ‘James Spooner’ is seen at the Ffestiniog Railway.
• LNER A2 No. 60532 ‘Blue Peter’ returned to service following a recent £5 million overhaul at LSL, Crewe. Running from London King’s Cross to York and from York to Crewe via the Calder Valley Line, the locomotive is seen at various locations hauling ‘The Chairman’s Train. ‘Blue Peter’ is also seen hauling ‘The Christmas White Rose’, its first commercial passenger service in 22 years, in November 2024.
• Vintage Trains delivered a number of ambitious tours, including double-headed Castle locomotives to Plymouth, ‘Clun Castle’ travelling to Scarborough for the very first time, and the return of a Castle locomotive tackling the climb to Shap.
• With autumn colors beginning to emerge, ‘The Jacobite’ was captured in early September. Locomotives LMS 5MT No. 45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier’ and LMS 5MT No. 45212 are seen hauling services between Fort William and Mallaig.
• A collection of photo charters are featured during this product including BR 4MT No.75014 at the Churnet Valley Railway, LMS 2MT No.41312 at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, GWR 2-6-2 No.8 ‘Llywelyn’ at the Vale Of Rheidol Railway, GWR No.2999 ‘Lady Of Legend’ at the Severn Valley Railway and LBSCR Marsh Atlantic No. 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ at the Bluebell Railway.
• Throughout the four discs a wide collection of events are featured from many different preserved railways including goods services, vintage services, gravity trains, express services and much more.
Bonus Footage:
In February 2024, we visited the Harz Railway in Germany. Tackling the steep gradients to the summit of Brocken Mountain, we’ve included a separate chapter featuring the powerful 2-10-2 tank locomotives running between Wernigerode and the Brocken Summit.
