Description

Taken for granted for so many years - now they are just a memory - whatever happened to the 'Slam Door EMUs'?

This release from Train Crazy looks at the final years of ten classes of EMUs that were withdrawn from service over the last decade.

In the North West Class 305s are featured on the Manchester - Glossop and Hadfield and Edinburgh - North Berwick lines with 310s working out of Liverpool and Crewe.

Class 308s feature around Leeds and 312s are shown in East Anglia.

In the south both 310s and 312s are featured working out of Fenchurch Street.

Then it's third rail EMU time with detailed footage of 411s, 412s, 421s and 423s in many different liveries working across the former Southern Region.

The Class 205 and 207 'Thumpers' are included working Oxted to Uckfield and Hastings to Ashford with footage at London Bridge and Victoria.

Each class is introduced with a brief history followed by footage from their final years of service including film inside the carriages, close-ups and zoom shots.

The programme ends with footage of the old and new EMUs working side by side in 2005 and a look at the tiny Lymington Pier branch - now the last line in the UK running Slam Door EMUs.

Filmed to a professional standard, this programme is a must for all followers of EMUs.
