Number four in the Dying Embers series, looking back at the decline of steam across Europe, goes behind the Iron Curtain into the German Democratic Republic, better known as East Germany, between 1976 and 1980.

Starting in Berlin we visit all five regions of the country, taking in both main line action and some of the narrow-gauge systems. Numerous locations feature during the journey around the GDR.
