On 6th December 2024, with just a month of the Illuminations to go, Blackpool Transport suspended their Heritage tram operation. With the 'Christmas-by-the-Sea' tram tours all cancelled and no Illuminations tours, the company lost tens of thousands of pounds in revenue. The decision was very poorly received, drawing the attention of local MPs and making the national news. Now, as of Spring 2025, it's all over: all the old trams have been put into store and almost all the permanent staff used for the maintenance and operation of them have been made redundant - while at the same time, millions of pounds is being spent on replacing the almost-new buses with more new buses!
It's not the first time that overtly negative things have happened to Blackpool's trams, but this is definitely the worst, and until a solution can be found, the Blackpool Tram DVD rages on - No.106 - with the full story of what happened!
