Description

Over the weekend of 11/12th April a diesel gala took place at the Nene Valley Railway. This cab ride features the locos which took part in the event, returning to the East Lancs Railway.

Filmed on-board DC Rail Class 31, No.31601, the entire journey from the NVR to the ELR is shown - running via Leicester and various freight-only lines and curves.

Including a stop at Leicester to detach and shunt, this turned out to be an epic journey of almost six hours and is available on two superb programmes:

Continuing north from Loughborough we take a curious circular route, firstly running on to the Stenson freight-only branch at Sheet Stores Junction and then after Burton, taking the South Staffs freight-only branch at Wichnor Junction to Lichfield Trent Valley.

Joining the WCML at Lichfield we continue north passing Stafford, Crewe and Warrington before heading for Earlestown and across Chat Moss and the newly electrified Liverpool-Manchester line. Routed via Manchester Victoria, the climb up Miles Platting bank is a spectacular one and our final destination is Castleton, the mainline connection to the ELR.

Passing a superb variety of passenger and freight trains, numerous signal boxes and semaphore signals and, as well as running over two freight-only lines, a special 'thrash cam' was located in the back cab at all times, recording the 31 hard at work.

Filmed in fine weather and with the full assistance of DC Rail. Part narration, on-screen captions and maps. Filmed in 16:9 widescreen.
