The Harz metre gauge railway system in Germany is the busiest steam operated railway in Europe today, with up to 10 steam locomotives in use daily.
This film looks at the Harz in the snow and features charter trains as well as the daily service trains throughout the 70 miles of lines on 3 railway systems.
Special engines include Jung Mallet No. 5902, Karlsruhe Mallet No. 5906, Henschel 0-6-0 T No. 6101 and Schwartskopf built 2-10-2T No. 222, as well as the regular fleet of 2-10-2 tanks.
Special consists include the Rollwagen bogie wagons carrying standard gauge wagons and the rollbock bogies with standard gauge wagons mounted directly on them.
It's steam and snow all the way in the Harz mountains.
