Stars of Sandstone: South Africa 2017 (BE170)
Stars of Sandstone 2017 was held from the 30th March until the 9th April at the Sandstone Estate in South Africa. Two years in the planning this event saw a wide display of vintage agricultural machinery, classic cars, steam-powered traction engines, military vehicles, aircraft and the famous Sandstone 2' gauge railway in action. With its large number of preserved and operational steam locomotives, Stars of Sandstone was a busy event.
Our film shows the railway in action over the full 11 days against the backdrop of working vintage vehicles and aircraft.
For the 2017 event, newly restored NGG11 Garratt No. 52 was unveiled, currently the oldest working Garratt in the world. Also opened for the first time was the new Children's railway, adding another 4 km to the 26 km of line running across Sandstone's 11,000 hectares.
See spectacular running with NGG16 Garratts, NG15 Kalahari 2-8-2, Lawley 4-4-0s and many others.
