Description

Our third DVD presents rare, vintage footage of the golden age of steam. Carefully curated, take a step back in time and watch these forgotten films of Britain's railways brought to life in beautiful detail and expert narration. Watch with or without music.

The Mumbles Railway
Exquisite footage of the very individual Mumbles Railway - almost a tramway but proud of its rail pedigree - with its two-deck carriages and doors on one side only, as it runs along the shores of Swansea Bay.

Eastern Region variety in the 1950s

Visit the Eastern Region in the 1950s with action from Didsbury on CLC lines, West Leigh, Bedford and beyond. We also travel on the erstwhile Midland & Great Northern Joint on a railtour headed by J15 no. 65469.

Branches & Byways: Southern Branches

We take a look at the Lymington, Swanage and Hawkhurst branches in the BR era, with branch and main line engines working side by side making connections at Brockenhurst and Wareham, and Maunsell 4-4-0s nos 31786 and 31749, an L1 and D1 respectively, on the 'Last Train' to Kent from London Victoria.

Great Western Pannier Tanks

Perhaps the most characteristic locomotives of the GWR were the Pannier Tanks, of which there was a great variety. We see 5700s, 6400s, 1500s and 9400s - and ride behind them on classic GWR lines.
