A Journey along the railways serving the South Midlands including Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire using archive film.

The Midland Main Line from Ampthill through Bedford to Wellingborough in the 1950s and 60s. Includes steam hauled passenger and freight services and the early years of dieselisation. Fowller 4Fs, Black 5s, Scots, 9Fs, Ivatt ‘Flying Pigs’ and ‘The Cobbler’ railtour all feature. Includes Sharnbrook station just prior to closure.

The Higham Ferrers Branch and a special along the branch from Wellingborough.

Branches from Bedford including the cross country route to Oxford prior to the closure of much of the line in 1968. Derby Lightweight DMUs are seen on the branch services.

Through Buckingham to Banbury featuring the ‘Banburian’ railtour of 1962 and its tour of the line from along the line from Bletchley to Banbury. Includes the wayside stations with a variety of traffic as well and Buckingham and Banbury Merton Street Stations.

The Newport Pagnell Branch with steam hauled push-pull passenger services at Great Linford and Bradwell stations plus the terminus at Newport Pagnell. The railway is shown throughout along with a railtour just after closure in 1964.

Branches from Bedford featuring the line from Bedford to Northampton and the intermediate stations at Turvey, Olney, Piddington and Northampton Bridge Street. Steam hauled freight and passenger trains are included along with DMUs in 1962 and the ‘Wandering 1500’ railtour with B12 haulage.

Railtours featuring the ‘Cobbler Railtour’ on the 15th September 1964 from Luton Bute Street, to the Newport Pagnell Branch, Northampton and Wellingborough.
