This four disc set features the following titles:

AV472 - The Settle-Carlisle Class 47

Section 1: Leeds – Bradford - Hellifield
We wait at Leeds for the arrival of our Carlisle train. At Kirkstall we watch the Bradford to Kings Cross pass and then the same again at Shipley. While at Bradford Forster Square we see a couple of run-rounds. An arrival at Keighley is followed by a journey from Skipton to Hellifield on a Carlisle service.

Section 2: Manchester Victoria - Hellifield
At Victoria we join the Manchester to Glasgow train. On this diverted service we pass through Salford Crescent, Chorley, Leyland, Farrington Junction, Blackburn and Daisyfield Junction before Hellifield.

Section 3: Hellifield - Settle
A number of diverted services are seen at Hellifield before moving on to Long Preston. We then journey past Settle Junction towards Settle. Another couple of diverted services are seen passing.

Section 4: Ribblehead - Carlisle
Many Bank Holiday diverted services are seen from views around Ribblehead viaduct. We continue on our journey, crossing the viaduct and passing Blea Moor box. At Appleby we pass a failed service on the up. On arrival at Carlisle we see loco changes.

Section 5: Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
Firstly we watch 47421 being named “The Brontes of Haworth” at Haworth station in August 1985. Later we travel behind D1842 on a couple of weekends in November 1989, finishing off at Keighley station.


AV473 - North Wales Class 47
Filmed on location in North Wales and Borders from 1983 to 2003

Section 1: Stafford – Crewe - Mostyn
We join the Birmingham New St - Holyhead service at Stafford and then race the Euston - Holyhead service to Crewe. While at Crewe many Class 47 movements are witnessed before our departure. After Chester we see a service pass Mostyn box.

Section 2: Mostyn – Conwy Valley
At Mostyn 40122 fails on the White Rose Railtour. 47323 to the rescue and we are propelled to Prestatyn where the assisting loco is then run to the head of the train. At Llandudno Junction both locos depart the train and, later than advertised, head towards Blaenau Ffestiniog behind 47350.

Section 3: Llandudno Junction - Holyhead
Returning to Llandudno Junction we then continue our journey passing Conwy and Penmaenmawr. At Llanfairpwll and Rhosneigr more down trains are seen before our arrival at Holyhead.

Section 4: Holyhead - Penmaenmawr
After a number of movements at Holyhead we start our return journey. Valley, Rhosneigr, Llanfairpwll and Gaerwen are visited before a couple of services at Bangor. At Penmaenmawr we see a Euston service pass after a steam special.

Section 5: Llandudno – Manchester Piccadilly
At Llandudno a Euston service awaits departure and is then seen at the Junction. 47s are seen at Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Rhyl, Talacre, Mostyn and Chester. A test-train passes Warrington Bank Quay and finally at Piccadilly the Bangor service ECS departs.


AV474 - The Newcastle-Liverpool Class 47

Section 1: Newcastle – Leeds - Mirfield Our stock arrives from Heaton and the journey begins. First we cross the King Edward Bridge over the Tyne and to Durham. A quick visit to Thornaby Depot and Eaglescliffe is taken. Thirsk and Shipton are looked at before York. We then join a Cross Country service for the journey to Leeds. Dewsbury and Mirfield are our next stops.

Section 2: Huddersfield – Liverpool Lime St After Huddersfield we enter Standedge Tunnel. Over the Pennines, Stalybridge and Guide Bridge are seen before Manchester Piccadilly. Oxford Road, Flixton, Birchwood and Widnes are seen then we arrive and terminate at Liverpool Lime Street.

Section 3: Liverpool Lime St – Healey Mills For our return journey from Lime Street we travel on Sunday via St Helens and Newton-le-Willows to Manchester Victoria. Then we run via Miles Platting, Rochdale, Walsden, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse and Healey Mills.

Section 4: Leeds - Newcastle At Leeds there are a number of arrivals. From York we travel through Thirsk, Darlington and Durham. On arrival at Newcastle our journey finishes as the empty stock returns to Heaton Depot.

Section 5: Final Day Sun 20 Jan 1991 Photographers stand on Liverpool Lime Street platform to record the last loco-hauled Newcastle departure. We see more people at Leeds as 47640 departs.


AV477 - The Scottish Region Class 47
Filmed on location in Scotland from 1989 to 1995

Section 1: Edinburgh - Glasgow Queen Street
After a short signal check we depart Edinburgh. A number of line-side locations are featured such as Newbridge, Linlithgow, Polmont, Croy and Cadder Yard on the journey to Glasgow Queen Street.

Section 2: Glasgow Queen Street - Dundee
At Glasgow Queen Street we join 47712. Passing Cadder Yard, then stopping at Stirling, passing Blackford we arrive Gleneagles. Now onwards to Perth and other line-side locations are visited on the journey before seeing Tay Bridge and then arrival at Dundee.

Section 3: Inverness - Elgin - Aberdeen
Firstly we arrive Inverness by Class 47 hauled sleeper service. After watching a number of Class 47 movements we join our train. 47635 takes us on our journey, calling at Nairn, Elgin and Dyce before finally arriving at Aberdeen.

Section 4: Aberdeen - Dundee - Edinburgh
From Aberdeen we travel to Dundee and then cross the Tay Bridge. Line-side views to the south of the bridge. Next we visit Inverkeithing and cross the Forth Bridge before finally arriving at Edinburgh where 47605 runs around the train.

Section 5: Sunday Diversions
After departing Edinburgh, diverted shuttle services are seen at Falkirk Grahamston and Cumbernauld. After visiting Carstairs diverted services on the GSW are seen at the line-side locations of Barrhead, Lugton, Stewarton and Woodhead and we finish in Carlisle.
