Cab Ride: Bounds Green to Doncaster via Hertford Loop and ECML
As well as stock and EMU moves with their own Class 37s, the Rail Operations Group works a number of trains for passenger companies. These are mostly testing and mileage accumulation jobs, moving units to/from works attention and/or store and on this occasion, a loco move for LNER.
DBC Class 67s are used as Thunderbirds on the ECML and on this occasion, the Doncaster-based locos were due for a swap and maintenance at Bounds Green depot. With 67016 heading south, Pullman liveried 67021 was heading the other way - this cab ride was filmed on board that loco.
Starting from Bounds Green depot and filmed on a fine early spring day, the full 153-mile journey is shown here as we run along the Hertford Loop to Langley Junction and then a sprint along the ECML, with a few pathing stops, running into lesser-seen loops. Although routed mostly on the slow lines, where possible the full 100mph maximum speed is reached.
Includes maps, on-screen captions and minimal narration. A thrash cam in the back cab records the loco at work and ambient sounds.
