Cab Ride: via Leamington Spa, Coventry, Nuneaton and Water Orton.
6M50 the 07.55 from Westbury to Bescot is one of a number of Network Rail material delivery trains and it was one of the first to be hauled by the new Colas Class 70s when they were first introduced in 2014. This cab ride is the second part of the journey, starting at Hinksey Yard, filmed on board 70812. With a super-lightweight train of four YWA Salmon flats, we work our way north over a criss-cross route of lesser-used and freight only lines.
Heading via Oxford and the Chiltern Mainline we run north to Banbury, Fenny Compton and Leamington Spa and then branch onto the mostly single-track line to Coventry. From here, we take another branch and head over to Nuneaton where we join up briefly with the WCML, before heading off via Water Orton and the freight-only branch to Walsall, eventually running into the Up Sidings at Bescot Yard.
Filmed in September 2019, the loco and ambient sounds are recorded with a special 'thrash-cam' in the back cab. At times this cab ride is slow, with lengthy sections of 40 and 50mph running and for the last 25 minutes into Bescot, the weather is poor, but the entire journey is included here - nothing is omitted!
