The Severn Valley Railway held its first diesel gala in May 1987. Over the following thirty years, the railway staged many more such ground-breaking events, which attracted an ever-impressive line-up of visiting locomotives.
Thirty years later, the majority of diesel locomotive classes - old and new- had reached the far end of the line at Bridgnorth. From the humble Class 08 shunter to the mighty Class 59 and the brand new Class 68, the galas have featured a diverse range diesel traction. Aside from locomotives, a number of Diesel Multiple Units have also appeared - from a two-car Class 104 to a modern Class 220 Virgin Voyager. Going back in time, there’s even a 1940-built GWR Railcar.
This DVD features the best of the first 30 year’s galas and includes 90 different locos from 28 classes working over this delightfully scenic 16-mile heritage line as it follows the course of the River Severn.
