West Somerset Railway – 30 Years of Galas As the railway celebrates its 50th year of operation in 2026, we look at the galas held at the 22-mile heritage line since their first steam one in 1996. There were four diesel galas prior to that but from 1996 steam reigned, with the first one dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the closure of the S&D. Some epic moments when one-off steam was used will also feature.
A diverse range of locomotives are shown right up to 2026 when the 50th anniversary was celebrated with A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley as star locomotive.
