It's more than 25 years since the last Class 52 'Western' locomotives ran on British Railways and yet the fascination for this unique class of diesel lingers on.

This programme is a pictorial history of the class looking back to its heyday and featuring original moving footage of engines in all five original liveries.

The film also features interviews with staff involved in the introduction of the diesel hydraulics giving a fascinating insight into the motives behind the project and even the choice of names for the class.
