It was 40 years ago, back in 1973, when trams first operated at Beamish Museum. From a short length of track back then, to the full 1.75 mile circuit of today, the tramway now carries a credible 1.5 million passengers per year.
Produced with the full assistance of the museum, this DVD looks at the electric trams that operate at Beamish today. From the small fleet of resident cars, to the many on-loan vehicles that have operated in recent years, there is no doubt that this wonderful tramway, running through the beautiful Durham countryside with its period settlements, is one of the finest in Britain.
Trams featured on this DVD include resident cars Gateshead 10, Sunderland 16, Blackpool 31, Newcastle 114, Oporto 196 and Sheffield 264 plus long-term on-loan cars: Blackpool Boat 233 (605), Blackpool Balloon 101 (703) and trams that have operated during special events: Leeds 6 (96), Blackpool VAMBAC 11, Blackpool Coronation 304, Lisbon 730, Manchester 765 and Glasgow 1068.
As well as looking at each tram, there is coverage of the various special events from recent years, night photo-shoots, a tram procession and a ride over the full circuit of the museum, filmed from the top deck of 101.
