Railway photographer Jim Edgar has put together in this book a collection of his photos of Northern Ireland Railways taken between 1968 and 2011. This edition, the fourth volume of a series featuring the railways of the island of Ireland, covers Northern Ireland. It concentrates mainly on the period 1975 to 2000 when the network was undergoing great change during difficult times.
Locos include the NIR classes DH, DL (Hunslet), MV, GM (later 111) and 201 plus CIÉ classes 001, 121, 141, 181 and 201. Railcars include NIR classes BUT, MED, MPD, DE (later 70 class) 80, 450 and the unique NIR Railbus.
Although principally shot in diesel days, there are photos of NIR number 27 "Lough Erne", WT class number 5 and the Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioners loco number 3.
Sections covered include from the Border to Portadown, Portadown to Belfast, Central Belfast, Belfast to Bangor, Belfast to Larne, Belfast to Londonderry, Coleraine to Portrush and Knockmore to Antrim.
