The third Cab Ride in the Greater Anglia series is a contrast of lines: In Suffolk, the short but very busy 15.5 mile railway from Ipswich to Felixstowe; and in Norfolk, the longer and more scenic 30.5 mile journey from Norwich to Cromer, reverse, then onto Sheringham.
Part One: Ipswich to Felixstowe
The Felixstowe branch could be described as freight-only line with occasional passenger trains, as in between the 70+ container trains to and from the rail terminals at the Port of Felixstowe each weekday, an hourly passenger train squeezes in, calling at the three intermediate stations! A single line railway with passing loops, a typical journey is shown here in both directions, filmed on board a Class 755 bi-mode unit and passing no less than seven container trains!
Part Two: Norwich - Cromer - Sheringham
Branded as the Bittern Line, the railway from Norwich to Cromer with a reverse, and onto the seaside town of Sheringham, is a mixture of single and double track running, passing the open fields and scenic landscape of North Norfolk. The outward journey is shown in full, with highlights of the return.
These journeys were filmed in August 2022 as part of a series of cab filming carried out for Greater Anglia.
Narration, on-screen captions, maps and live cab sounds.
