Bolton Abbey - Stoneacre Loop - Holywell Halt - Embsay

The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales opened to passengers in 1981, today running from Bolton Abbey to Embsay via Stoneacre Loop and Holywell Halt. This product allows you to hop onboard the footplate of visiting locomotive Cockerill Type IV No.8 'Lucie' and travel in both directions of the railway.

Cockerill Type IV No.8 'Lucie'
0-4-0 'Lucie' is a type IV vertical boilered steam locomotive built by the John Cockerill Company 1890. 'Lucie' started life as a tram, working for the East Brussels Tram company, often working funeral, passenger and the odd freight services. 'Lucie' returned to the UK in 1987 and spent time at both Peak Rail and the Middleton Railway. 'Lucie' is now based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, often used to heat coaching stock during the colder months and providing shunting demonstrations during events.

For the summer 2021 season, 'Lucie' visited the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway to haul their 'Stately Train Services'. On the 2nd September 2021, Steaming Around Yorkshire and 30742 Charters organised a photo charter with the locomotive. During the morning the locomotive ran with a several freight wagons, the afternoon included two of the vintage coaches drawn from the 'Stately Train' collection.

Join the crew of Cockerill No.8 'Lucie' and travel in both directions of the railway between Embsay and Bolton Abbey, watching the crew tackle the gradients. Using new technology and filmed in 4K, you're able to witness No.8 working hard through the Yorkshire Dales from a whole new perspective. Follow No.8 from a series of different angles, including onboard the footplate, fireman's cab view, the front handrails, from the motion gear and onboard the freight wagons. Footage is also included from the lineside showcasing 'Lucie' at several different viewpoints along the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, filmed during our photo charter on the 2nd September 2021.

There are three viewing options:

Option 1: Sit back and watch the action from the footplate, from several different camera angles including the lineside. You'll travel from Embsay to Bolton Abbey, followed by the return trip from Bolton Abbey to Embsay, calling at Stoneacre Loop. This option includes short titles informing you of key locations and the gradient profile along the route.

Option 2: Similar to the previous option, however this option doesn't feature the lineside action, titles and gradient profile information.

Option 3: Take in the picturesque scenery as you watch the Yorkshire Dales pass by, this option allows you to watch from the fireman's cab window in both directions.
The Blu-ray features no commentary, allowing you to fully appreciate the sound of the steam locomotive working hard. Short titles are included throughout informing you of key locations and gradients.

Footplate filming took place on the 2nd September 2021.
