Our Digitally Remastered Series are bigger, better and in stunning HD for the very first time! These are the original programmes which have been put through the upscale and remastering treatment with improvements to audio, colour balance, contrast and most of all - picture quality. Some of the trains featured here were never filmed in HD or in broadcast quality. Now, for the first time - you can enjoy just that!
Filmed in Ecuador in 1991 by Frank and Michael Tyler, we travel from Duran to Alausi with a steam powered charter train as well as following the daily mixed train. The flat section to Bucay is followed by the steep mountain section up to 1:18 zig zagging up the infamous Devil's Nose to Alausi, high in the Andes.
In addition a visit was made to to the section between Cuenca and Azogues with another charter train, to complete our coverage. Most of these lines are abandoned today, so 1991 was one of the last times these scenes could have been filmed with steam. Seven different steam locomotives are in action with the Baldwin 2-6-0s and 2-8-0s.
