The recent revival in loco-hauled passenger trains continued throughout 2017. From the north of Scotland and Class 73s at Inverness, to Penzance with Class 57s working the Saturdays-only daytime train, there were many highlights of another comeback year.
Starting with Class 37s in Cumbria and two diagrams continued to operate six days a week. 37424 in the large logo livery returned to service; this loco features alongside various others. As ever, the scenic coastal route is a perfect setting for these trains.
As well as the long-standing Class 37 hauled diagram, Class 68s continued working short-sets in top and tail mode off Norwich for much of the year. Filmed from numerous lineside locations, plus Great Yarmouth and around Reedham with 37419+37422 and 68005+68024.
Class 68s continued to work for Chiltern out of Marylebone. With extended diagrams and more loco-hauled trains in 2017, footage comes from Birmingham Moor Street and other lineside locations.
In Scotland, the morning and evening peak Fife Circle commuter trains remained Class 68 hauled with a variety of different locos used. Class 73s took over haulage of the sleeper trains (on their own) but it wasn't all 73s with 47739 and 67010 helping out! Includes 73967+73968 diverted to Oban.
In Wales the Class 67 hauled trains are featured working the long-standing Holyhead-Cardiff service and the second set between Manchester and Holyhead.
An extended feature on the Great Western sleeper and daytime services with arrivals, departures and shunting at Penzance plus the daytime train - running for the final time - with 57603 filmed leaving Long Rock and then crossing the Royal Albert Bridge at Plymouth.
All the action is wrapped up nicely with maps, diagrams and trivia.
