This special edition of our best-selling and highly-acclaimed Big Freight series looks at two Class 20s in industrial use.
The steel production plant at Scunthorpe is one of the largest in the UK. Situated on a 200 acre site and with an internal railway of over 100 miles, production first began in 1890.
Today, owned by the Indian giant Tata Steel, the site produces 4.5 million tons each year, serving the construction and rail industry. Freshly rolled continuous welded rails as well as steel slabs are transported by train from the site.
This programme looks at the two Class 20 locomotives based at Scunthorpe and which are used to haul wagons between the workshops. Owned by the Harry Needle Railroad Company No.81 (20056) carries a grey and yellow livery and No.82 (20066) is painted blue and orange.
Rarely seen by the general public, our cameras were given privileged access to the site and a typical day for both locos is featured, followed by a cab ride around part of the site.
If you're interested in industrial railways and what two veteran Class 20s get up to in a day's work, this programme is for you!
