Teigngrace to Severn Tunnel Junction.
Starting in 2007 with an occasional train of loaded logs between Carlisle and Chirk, Colas Rail now operate a number of timber trains serving the sustainable forests at Baglan Bay in South Wales and Teigngrace in Devon. From both these locations, loaded trains run to the wood manufacturing plant at Kronospan at Chirk, in North Wales and this is part one of a cab ride on the Teigngrace to Chirk train.
The programme begins with the loading and preparation of the train at the Teigngrace site on the former Heathfield branch. Running as 6Z53, with 66846 in charge, the train departs along the single line branch to Newton Abbot station.
At Newton Abbot the loco runs around the wagons and the main journey begins, passing along the sea wall at Teignmouth and Dawlish, forward on the Great Western Main line to Exeter and Bristol and then east through the Severn Tunnel and to Severn Tunnel Junction station, where the first part of this journey ends.
Filmed in 16:9 widescreen with the full assistance of Colas Rail on a fine dry sunny day in July 2012, the view from the front cab is supplemented by a special thrash cam in the back cab, recording the loco hard at work.
Includes maps, part-narration and on-screen captions, pointing out open and closed stations, signal boxes, junctions and other lineside buildings and features.
