150 Years of the Brussels Trams
This DVD is a record of a visit to Brussels for the events to commemorate 150 years of tramway operation. At Place Royale, a number of Vicinal trams were on static display, together with a steam tram running up and down a short section of track. A mock-up of the new generation of tram was also on display. On 1st May a parade of around 40 trams ran from Place Royale along Rue Royale and Rue de la Regence to Sainte Marie Church watched by thousands of people. Following the parade, the vehicles offered free rides between Rue Royale and Sainte Marie, and Rue Royale and Legrand or Barriere.
The following day, 1935 bogie tram 5008 is seen running a tour. This was followed by a visit to Train World located at Schaerbeek Station. In the afternoon a visit was made to the former Vicinal Tram Museum at Schepdall where an Autorail was giving rides.
The following day was spent riding trams, including a look at the Atomium at Heysel, Pre-Metro at de Brouckiere and the Grand Place.
Saturday morning started with a ride on route 81 to Marius Renard, followed by a brief visit to the European Tram Driver Championship held in the Rue Royale. The programme concludes with a visit to Woluwe Tram Museum and a ride on 1935 bogie tram 5008 to Tervuren.
