A nostalgic look at the 'Torbay Express' trains from Bristol to Kingswear, running across the Somerset levels over Whiteball Bank and along the Dawlish sea wall in glorious Devon.
The 'Dawlish Donkey' shuttle trains from Exeter to Paignton are also featured and we recall some of the highlights of these trains, with their varied motive power, as they run along the spectacular sea wall and coastal scenery at Dawlish Warren and Dawlish to pick up passengers. The sight and sound of these trains stir one's imagination back to years gone by when steam was a regular sight along this route.
There are also numerous scenes of trains over the tortuous South Devon banks between Newton Abbot and Plymouth. Here a variety of locomotives including a Duchess and Princess Royal are seen slogging up the classic gradients of Dainton, Hemerdon and Rattery banks. These shots come from the finest collection in existence of steam over the South Devon Banks.
