Cab Ride: Derby to Preston via Chesterfield, Hope Valley, Manchester and Bolton.
A cab ride from Derby to Preston…?
Over to Stoke then Crewe and up the WCML… no…
or down to Wichnor Junction, across to Lichfield and up the WCML… no!
This is a cab ride on board 37884 from Derby to Preston, via the unlikely, but more interesting and scenic route of Chesterfield, Dore South Curve, Totley Tunnel, the Hope Valley, to New Mills, Hazel Grove, Manchester Piccadilly and under the wires via Bolton and Chorley.
Running as a route refresher this one-off journey took a ROG Class 37 over some rare track and freight-only curves, running through many tunnels and up and down the gradients of the Hope Valley line, passing traditional signals and signal boxes.
Filmed on a fine day in August 2021, the entire 102-mile journey is shown, including a rare move at Oxford Road station right through to bay platform 3C at Preston - not a common place for a Class 37!
Includes maps, on-screen captions and minimal narration. A thrash cam in the back cab records the loco at work and ambient sounds.
