This Cab Ride takes us from the Victorian seaside resort of Cleethorpes to the industrial city of Sheffield over tracks originally laid by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire and the Midland Railways.
Our journey is in the cab of a TransPennine Express Class 185 on the sort of beautiful sunny day with bright sunshine that you would hope for on a seaside holiday in Cleethorpes.
Our first stop is at Grimsby, a town which owes much of its presence as an east coast port to the docks development financed by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire. From there we head across the flatlands of north Lincolnshire, occasionally flanked on both sides of the track by rivers and canals. We reach Doncaster, meeting up with the East Coast Main Line, before branching west along the valley of the River Don, travelling deeper into South Yorkshire, by-passing Rotherham, before reaching our destination in the steel town of Sheffield.
