Description

In another action-packed three-hour programme, once again we go countrywide with the best freight action. From the lineside and the sky, along obscure freight-only lines and main lines, there's a rich variety of traction. From 66s and semaphores across The Fens, 43s back-to-back hauling 777 EMUs and orange 37s and 90s; to Class 56 and 70-hauled stone trains and West Midlands snow freight - this is Big Freight 28.

Peterborough and March to Ely: The second part of our look at freight trains across The Fens starts at Werrington Junction and Peterborough with numerous flows and moves. Next is the March to Ely section, starting on a fine June evening at March with its traditional signal boxes, we work our way east to Ely station.

Cambrian Saloon: A Class 97 and a 37 hauling a single coach saloon from Shrewsbury to Barmouth is not really a freight train! It's not really a passenger train either but technically they are two freight locos, so the events of this beautiful mid-winters day are featured here. Includes stunning aerial footage on Barmouth Bridge.

WCML 1: Scotland, Carlisle and Preston: The first part of a feature on freight on the WCML in 2022-2023 starts in Scotland with a look at the recently reopened Ravenstruther facility, now being used for the loading of quarry stone. We work our way south, at Abington, Carlisle and then to Preston. With the 86s now gone, Freightliner 90s and a few DB 90s dominate the container trains but in between, there's a few interesting diesel-hauled flows with Colas 70s on stone trains.

Colas Stone Trains 1: Continuing the theme of stone trains for this programme, during the winter and spring of 2022/2023 Colas operated a number of new flows, mostly for the Land Recovery site at Longport. A short lived flow was gravel from Workington Docks to Drigg and 56078 and 56113 feature on a gorgeous spring day on the Cumbrian Coast.

Also on this edition: A visit to Pilning with freight climbing up from the Severn Tunnel; more Merseyrail EMU moves; West Midlands snow day; eight in a row at Church Fenton; Dundee overnight; five in a row at St. Denys and some more RHTT action from autumn 2022.

• All sections are introduced with full commentary and maps.
• Includes aerial footage.
• So much more than just train after train running past the camera!
• This is all brand new footage, filmed in 2022/23 – GUARANTEED.
