The Cumbria Coast Railway carries you on an intimate journey along one of the forgotten coasts of Britain. This DVD covers the section from Whitehaven to Carlisle, and at times you're just feet from the shoreline. The views are spectacular and the history of the area no less so.
We've installed five cameras on a class 153 diesel multiple unit of Northern Rail to ensure you get the best view possible of the railway, the scenery and even the driver at work in the cab.
We begin in Whitehaven, the only place in Britain to be attacked by the US navy. The former Whitehaven Junction Railway clings to the edge of the land as we squeeze our way up the coast, passing a tiny seaside town which once boasted more railway stations than many cities. We see the site in Workington where the world's railway lines were made, and hear about the home of the Pacer DMU.
At Maryport we join the tracks of the Maryport & Carlisle Railway, one of the consistently most profitable railway companies in the UK, and discover secret long lost stations and junctions which have faded back into the landscape. Our destination is Carlisle - known as the Railway City. Seven different companies used to operate into its Citadel Station carrying traffic over lines such as the Settle & Carlisle, the Newcastle & Carlisle, and the Waverley line which ran through the Scottish Borders to Edinburgh. We'll wind our way around the junctions to the south of the station before paralleling the West Coast Mainline to the platform.
As you'd expect from our international ward-winning team, this is a superb production you'll want to watch time and again. A Journey on the Cumbria Coast Railway from Whitehaven to Carlisle is available on DVD and Blu-Ray. There's also a second production which journeys along the coastal route from Barrow-in-Furness to Whitehaven.
Free Bonus Extra.
Our DVDs are used by Northern Rail to help their drivers learn the route, and we've a special added feature for you to understand the journey as quickly as possible.
We've re-interpreted the famous 1952 BBC film of London to Brighton in four minutes to bring you a high speed run from Whitehaven to Carlisle, viewed from the prime spot on the front of the class 153. It's the perfect way to round off this exclusive viewing experience.
