Severn Tunnel Junction to Shrewsbury via Abergavenny and Hereford.
The second part of our journey on the South West Log Train is from Severn Tunnel Junction to Shrewsbury via the Welsh Marches route.
Emerging from the Severn Tunnel itself we continue along the South Wales main line to Maindee East Junction, just before Newport, and take the freight only curve, running forward to Abergavenny, Hereford, Craven Arms and Shrewsbury.
Filmed in 16:9 widescreen with the full assistance of Colas Rail on a fine dry sunny day in July 2012, see the numerous signal boxes and traditional lower and upper quadrant signals as we make our way north over this scenic and historic route.
Class 66/8, 66846 is the train loco and the view from the front cab is supplemented by a special ‘thrash’ cam in the back cab, recording the loco hard at work.
Includes maps, part-narration and on-screen captions, identifying open and closed stations, signal boxes, junctions and other lineside buildings and features.
Bonus footage: The route of the South West Log Train passes through a number of scenic and well known locations: Dawlish, Taunton and Severn Tunnel Junction. The bonus footage on this programme revisits them, with some loco hauled passenger and freight action filmed over the last few years.
