Cab Ride: Pembroke Dock - Fishguard Harbour - Milford Haven
Following Network Rail's reorganisation of the Rail Head Treatment trains for the 2025 season, Colas won the contract to operate the West Wales circuit. This was previously run by DB and working off Margam, starting from 2025, it switched to Port Talbot.
Remarkably, for this route learner, Class 59, 59003 'Yeoman Highlander' was used! On lease from GBRf, this may well have been the first time a 59 has run to the likes of Fishguard Harbour, Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock. This programme, looks at the first part of what was an epic day in West Wales.
This second cab ride commences at Pembroke Dock, running through to Whitland, reverse, then onto Fishguard Harbour. With a short break, it was back to Clarbeston Road, reverse and then all the way to Milford Haven. Much of the railway is single line and although the journey is mostly through open fields and farmland, there's some interesting railway infrastructure, junctions and lesser-seen locations, especially from the cab of a locomotive!
The RHTT which normally works these lines usually runs overnight so to have a loco, in daylight, at the likes of Carmarthen, Tenby and Pembroke Dock is quite remarkable! To have a Class 59 at these locations, filmed here from the cab, makes it even more remarkable - a small piece of Welsh railway history in the making!
The full journey is shown. Maps, on-screen captions and minimal narration. A thrash cam in the back cab records the loco at work and ambient sounds.
