Sunrise Sunset UK spends a full day at a busy and popular location, recording a typical day of passenger and freight trains.
With almost all others long closed, the station here is a curious survivor on the Birmingham - Nuneaton line and with a three track layout and large footbridge adjacent; it's a great location to watch trains pass. Cross Country provide a limited passenger service with many more Class 170s, 220s, 221s and HSTs passing through, but the main focus is freight.
In recent years there has been a huge increase with stone, steel, sand, cement, oil and engineers trains. The main flow is containers, serving the nearby Hams Hall, Birch Coppice and Lawley Street facilities. On a good day as many as 50 freight trains pass through!
Five miles north of Water Orton is Kingsbury Branch Junction which provides access to Kingsbury oil terminal and Birch Coppice container yard. During this visit, four hours is spent here with Class 60 and 66 oil and container trains arriving and departing and more freight and HSTs passing on the main line.
Filmed on 1st July 2021, as well as the trains mentioned above, other highlights include 66724 with two barrier coaches; 97s 303+304 on an IM working; 66019+66018 on a one wagon sandwich; 60039 on oil; 60019 on steel; 70014+66504+66508 on a triple headed container train and all three HST sets working for Cross Country.
Bonus footage: A short cab ride through Water Orton and Kingsbury and brief aerial footage from Whitacre Junction.
